The National Competition and Markets Commission (CNMC) is the authority responsible in Spain for the issue, transfer and redemption of guarantees of origin (GOs) and any consumer may check at the year-end how many GOs have been redeemed against their electricity usage.
Guarantees of origin (GOs) issued for the purposes of Directive (EU) 2018/2001 of the European Parliament and of the Council and of Order ITC/1522/2007, 24 May, have the sole function of showing to a final consumer that a given share or quantity of energy was produced from renewable sources.
All renewable electricity producers are entitled to request as many GOs as MWh they shall have generated over a given period and may transfer these to retailers and consumers so as to certify, by redemption against point-of-delivery usage, that their renewable energy usage matches the GOs redeemed.
